Here at The Travellers Rest we offer a traditional country pub and Restaurant experience with a gastro twist; our friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere, and the stunning surroundings of Meltham make us one of the best places to eat and drink around.
We are very passionate about sourcing and using only the highest quality produce in our food - we aim to use local suppliers wherever possible. Due to our drive to find the best local produce we have embarked on producing home-grown pork - with our very own Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs. This ensures superb quality, fresh meat is used throughout our menu.
Located by the Pennines, the Travellers Rest is a popular location for passing walkers, and our child-friendly environment makes us a perfect location for all occasions! Our warm open fires and cosy atmosphere make for a welcoming setting, whether you are having a meal with your family or have just come for a drink with friends.
Our Menu specialises in a mix of traditional pub favourites along with some more exiting gastro delights to keep things fresh and interesting. Local sourcing of ingredients is an important element to our food, and everything we serve is fresh and home-made on site - we even rear and butcher some of our own meat.

How's your head?
Whilst the rest of the world might be quite unsympathetic to your cause, we understand, as you keep trying to tell everyone, that hangovers are a lot more complex than people might imagine:
It is a little known fact that there are 6 hangovers in total - the Broken Compass, the Sewing Maching, the Comet, the Atomic, the Cement Mixer and the Gremlin Boogie.
At the Travellers Rest we aim to match the hangover with your breakfast and in doing so help you on your way to a speedy recovery. The first thing we need to do is identify from which hangover the patient is suffering:
The Broken Compass - You have a complete lack of direction, you feel restless yet unable to do anything, you wish your brain would stop whispering, arguing with itself.
The Sewing Machine - Pain, is about the only noun you are able to manage this morning. Even reading this page feels like you are being attacked by a small man in your head armed with tiny needles.
The Comet - You're swirling uncontrollably through space, you find most things funny and everything interesting. You woke up feeling well, which is puzzling you as the amount you drank would suggest your head should hurt. As a matter of fact you stopped reading this a while ago to wonder if your head would actually float away if it wasn't attached to your body.
The Atomic - A bomb has gone off in your head. Your brain is completely missing. You're hungry, too hungry. Last night? You remember nothing.
The Cement Mixer - You had a silly mix of drinks. Your stomach feels like it's stuck on a fishing boat in an Autumn storm - at least you wish it felt as good as that. You're dizzy, as if you somehow accidentally fell asleep in a cement mixer.
The Gremlin Boogie - Poor you. It's taken you four hours to get this far, you don't know if you'll live through the day. Part of you wishes you wouldn't. Someone is having to read this to you. You wish they wouldn't.

Well, our hangover breakfast menu is now on, serving everything from peanut butter and bacon sandwiches to our famous Full English.
Our OAP lunchtime menu has been opened up to everyone, offering low price, tasty food, such as classic fish and chips, to eat in or take away for only £3.25
We've launched a buffet style curry night, with 5 home-made, authentic curries to choose from. Eat as much as you like for only £7.25.
Our pigs have finally left us (don't worry they're being replaced!) and we now have some extraordinary Gloucestershire Old Spot pork on the menu. You really have to try it.
We are holding a small stakes poker night on Wednesday nights. Beginners and experienced players are welcome.
We have a mini festival in the pipeline for August with over-night camping and plenty of live entertainment.
Friday nights are fast becoming legendary with song requests, JagerDan and his rubbish singing on a stool and of course where would be be without James and his tea towel stage diving? Oh and then there's our handy 2am licence, Joker Poker and the TRAVelator!
